Baby Bjorn Original Carrier: QUICK OVERVIEW
Easy and convenient

What We Like
What We Don't Like
The Baby Bjorn Original carrier is one of the better options for newborn babies.
It feels like it gives you all the benefits of something like a wrap, but is super easy to put on and to learn how to use. It's one of the easiest to put on but at the same time you feel like you're really close to baby.
In my experience the maximum weight limit of a carrier isn't really the weight that you'll feel comfortable carrying your baby in it - I can't imagine carrying a 45lb pound baby (toddler/pre-schooler more realistically) in carriers that have a maximum 45lb rating. Similarly the Baby Bjorn Original carrier isn't going to feel comfortable with a 25lb baby (its purported maximum).
More realistically you're looking at a 15lb maximum, which really only makes this suitable for the first few months for most babies. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you buy this carrier knowing that - and it's reasonably priced too.
Probably one of the biggest downsides is that you can't really use this for a long period of time without starting to feel it in your back, even with smaller babies.
But for short stretches and for a carrier that is going to fit and feel great with your newborn and is super easy to put on, even by yourself, this is a great option for the first few months.
Baby Bjorn Original Carrier REVIEW
The Baby Bjorn Original carrier is without bells and whistles, and isn't the most versatile going around. But as a specialized newborn carrier, it's top of the line.
It's one of the easiest, if not the easiest, carrier to put on and take off, even if you're doing it by yourself. So, for that first carrier experience with your newborn, especially if you don't have the time or inclination to learn how to use a wrap, it's a great choice.
And if you have a toddler (read: impatience!) that you also have to look after, then being able to quickly get your newborn in their carrier is a godsend!
There is no waist belt with this carrier, which helps to make it easier to work with - but also means all the weight is on your back.
You will need to get a larger carrier once your baby gets bigger. So as long as you're not expecting to have this as your one and only carrier, you are likely to be happy with it. Realistically this is only for babies up to 15lbs and not for carrying for long periods.
Who is this product for?
The Babybjorn original carrier is for those who want a carrier that is simple to put on and take off, that is compact, lightweight and breathable and specifically designed for newborns.
Not something that will last for bigger babies, so you will need to buy more than carrier if you intend to continue baby wearing beyond the first few months, so not for anyone looking to get just one carrier. And also not for anyone who requires a sun hood.
Also probably not for someone who wants to carry their baby for long periods of time, except maybe for very small babies, especially if you have back issues.
Only the carrier is included.
No infant insert is required to use this carrier for newborns. Baby must be at least 8lbs though.

The Baby Bjorn Original Carrier is a great option to accompany a second carrier for when your baby is bigger.
It's the easiest carrier to put on and take off that I've used and is really easy to get baby out when they are sleeping - so you can easily put them in their crib to nap if you choose.
It's a simple carrier, which has its benefits - like being super easy to put on and take off, but also it's downsides.
- Lacking a sun hood
- There's no waist belt, which means all the weight is on your back
- No pocket
There is some versatility in this carrier in that you can, of course, adjust the straps to fit you and your baby and there is the option for baby to face in or face out. But the carrier is limited to smaller babies, isn't really suitable for long stints and doesn't have back or hip carry options.
But this carrier isn't designed to be versatile (IMO) - it's designed to be an easy carrier that is well suited to newborn babies without any fuss or bells and whistles and it does that extremely well. And its not priced to be a one-carrier-for-everything carrier either. It's priced well, in my opinion. It does less than a lot of carriers and won't last as long, but its considerably cheaper than a lot of other carriers.
As a compliment to a bigger carrier (that you can swap to once baby is bigger) - and as a carrier that is super easy to use and a great start for your baby wearing experience, the Baby Bjorn Original Carrier is a great option.
